Women, Wellbeing, Work, Waste and Sanitation action research successes in South Asia

The 4WS project ‑ Women, Wellbeing, Work, Waste and Sanitation has successfully addressed the sanitation problems in low income peri-urban communities in coastal areas of South Asia. This is done through participatory approaches that are gender and poverty sensitive. It also creates employment for women as latrine masons and in solid waste collection and recycling.

Improving school sanitation and hygiene in Kenya: Seven partners in successful joint learning partnership

A partnership of seven organisations in Kenya has completed a successful nine-month pilot project in three areas of Kenya in 2004-2005 to enhance the state of sanitation and hygiene for Kenya’s schoolchildren through improved access and use of information. The approach and concrete outputs triggered a follow up by the Kenyan Government. The Government has approved the RCD-SSHE Core Group to act as coordination body for the national school sanitation programme. The Sanitation and Hygiene Technical Group will officially be launched soon.
