Work on monitoring and participatory assessment used on Water Monitoring Alliance site

Updated - Thursday 18 August 2005

The Water Monitoring Alliance has picked up two major IRC publications on monitoring and participatory assessment to feature on its web site . The “Key concepts" section “What is Monitoring all about? - Making the Concept Clear” is mainly using the IRC publication Monitoring Millennium Development Goals - A review of experiences and challenges. This publication also features on the Tools & Methods and Resource Library pages.

Methodology for Participatory Assessment

The other tool selected is the Methodology for Participatory Assessment (MPA), a ground-breaking methodology which was first validated in a research study in 2001. It was undertaken by the Water & Sanitation Program (WSP) and IRC with 88 communities in 15 countries. This study investigated the links between the sustainability of community-managed water supply services and gender- and poverty-sensitivity of demand-responsive approaches, used to establish the services.

IRC is further mentioned in the Capacity building page and four times in the Vision 21 WASH brochure of the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council in the Resource Library

The Water Monitoring Alliance web site is administered from the World Water Council headquarters in Marseille.
